MICAH-Godzilla

There’s a Monster on the loose!

I was contacted by Magic Wheelchair to design and build a costume for a kiddo with Muscular Dystrophy. This project was in conjunction with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The request was for a Godzilla themed costume.

Micah-Godzilla is a custom Magic Wheelchair build designed and led by Stefan Price in collaboration with the Orlando maker community, sponsored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Firefighters Union. Built for 4-year-old Micah in Dallas, TX — a little guy with big monster energy — the costume wraps a full Godzilla figure around his wheelchair, finished in a textured rubber skin faithful to the classic suit-actor tradition. Two rider-activated buttons give Micah control of his monster: the first triggers a full-volume roar through speakers mounted in Godzilla's head with mouth-flash lighting; the second launches the Atomic Blast sequence — a programmed NeoPixel charge that travels from tail to dorsal spines before culminating in a light-and-sound burst and an extending lightsaber “Atomic” beam from Godzilla's mouth. Revealed at a Dallas fire station with family, friends, and the Firefighters Union in attendance, Micah-Godzilla is a testament to what a community of makers can build when a kid needs a monster of his own.
